Before the new series of WDYTYA appears on TV. This always causes a long delay for copy certs

It starts next week, not sure what day. Patsy Kensit is featured first I believe.

My certificates arrived today which were web ordered the evening of 28th July.
It will be interesting to see if the return of the WDYTYA will bring the delivery time back to 4 - 6 weeks.

Certainly the first series of WDYTYA caused delays ....8 weeks for a marriage certificate in my case! :(

It was only the first series that included the 'How to Research' extra half hour programme and I have found that each subsequent series have caused delays but they reduce each time.

I seem to remember the GRO taking on extra staff for the last series in anticipation of vast volumes of requests.....And it didn't happen! :)

Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 6 Aug 2008 20:56

The irony is that in quite a few of the programmes the certs that get used come from the local register offices, they even film the moment the cert is handed over.

I just don't understand why there is so much emphasis on the GRO and certs, anyone would think that the GRO is the only place in the universe that certs come from.

With more and more local offices offering online orders as well as postal and telephone applications as well as applications in person it's not as if the local offices aren't accessible.

A common complaint is London offices but there and only a dozen or so that can't supply certs for family history.
