Hi

Wonder if anyone can help I have a query on one of my relatives their birth record shows them born in Basford in Notts in 1879 and the Census of 1881 shows someone with the same name and details as being born in Hucknall, Notts. Now I appreciate that this could be someone completely different and I of course will check this but is it possible that Hucknall was a district of Basford Notts or vice versa?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hucknall Torkard is in the Basford registration district.

If you go to this site it tells you all the registration districts in England and Wales and which places each one covers:-

They are close together and the census place of birth is often not quite what you would expect

Have a look here, districts of Nottingham

Looking at the info on Google Basford could well have been part of Hucknall. Basford only became part of Nottingham in 1877.
