With the mention of Country....that reminds me....

Can you please include the Country of your enquiry if it's somewhere other than England/Wales/Scotland?

It's generally accepted here that this site is mainly based around the above mentioned countries. It's highly frustrating to read through 16 lines of data to discover on the last line Joe Bloggs came from Tipperary, Ireland.

If the Country of enquiry was mentioned on the header those who only specilise in the relevant country will see it faster. These people do tend to ONLY open threads relevant to them.

So a header "Joe Bloggs 1876 - Ireland" is going to get you the relevant help faster than mere "Joe Bloggs 1876". This has been proven time and again!!

....one more point to add..... please used to option of nudge rather than rewriting your post just because you cannot see it on the first page !!!! It's still there just rolled round out of sight!!!

.....Goto your control panel (the yellow box on the left) click 'my threads' and then find your post, open it and then use the reply box to add a nudge (this can simply be done with an 'n' or the word nudge) .... and hey presto your back on page 1. !!!

Mrs Bucket and Tracey...they are both very relevant notes too.
You know how it is - you look for subject matter and it all comes up with 'general' stuff.
So you open the 'general stuff' to find no details, no dates, no places, nothing of where that person has searched, all you have are names.
The postee may think that 'their name' is quite unique...believe me...it wont be!!!!
99.999% someone else was born with the same name in the same year...sometimes (as i have come across with imediate family members), EVEN the same country, county, town, village, AND hospital.
Only to find it is not the same person - just a fluke of coincidence.

PLEASE give clear and concise details immediately.
As much as possible - unless SOME details are 'sensitive' - then you can add in about your neighbours cat pooing on your granny's dinner.

Emms.
Glad to see someone else feels the same about vague posts.

Also....(this really annoys me) Please put the Country and County.

Our members are worldwide and wont know where Hillhouse primary School is! Or...they lived up north street on the corner....(no town of county mentioned!)

Fred Bloggs 'my auntys cousins brother who once fell in the canal' doesnt interest me...
You really dont even have to put who this rellie is to you. This doesnt help with the look up..

Keep your request of help to the facts.

Phew! that felt good getting that of my chest! lol

It's also worth adding

Please state exactly where and what you have searched....

Many time we have seen i am looking for info on Henry Bloggs born 1865 Coventry....

...people then post all the census info, we wait a day and then up pops the poster with the comment.... oh yeah i have the census data, i was looking for baptism records.

We are not mind readers.... but are willing to help thoose willing to help themselves....

Please state clearly what your exact request is!!!....and sit by the PC and reply as soon as you can when people start posting answers!

THREAD SUBJECT: Place the surname/name/key word/key date of person you are looking for here first.
TRYING TO FIND: Make sure the christian/first name(if possible) is included.
MESSAGE: Then on your first sentence type in dates/name/key details FIRST as these show when all posts are listed.

So for example If I was looking for my birth mum.(Which I'm not :))
Instead of "Looking For My Mum" (everyone types that and means you have to trawl through all of them if you are looking for your mum/child.) Try something like this..if it makes sense.

Thread Subject: 'Emm' is looking for [Mum's Name], my birth mum -
(or)
Trying To Find: [Mum's Surname] 'Emm' is looking for you
Message: I was named [name] at birth and want/need/whatever to contact you.

Or something to that effect, I am sure you get the drift :)
This way, whoever is looking for you will see the two names IMMEDIATELY on entering the community threads.

ALSO a good key to avoid potential relatives/etc 'skimming' past your post is to USE PARAGRAPHS - believe me - I have skipped many posts accidently as well as 'skim' reading because its all blocked in one paragraph with no punctuation and so forth.
