If you are the descendant of a deceased adopted person who was adopted after 1927 as described by Geraldine in her message, and you are trying to get access to birth records but have hit a brick wall, then I would like to hear from you.
A private case is being brought to Court shortly to challenge the intent of the UK Adoption Act and the right of descendants to their biological heritage. Please send me a brief message and I will get back to you.
Thanks

Geraldine

Your relative may well have been adopted in the true sense of the word... but prior to 1927 it wouldn't have been official and no records were kept.

Since 1927 all adopted child are placed on the Adopted Children Register (ACR)... this is not for public view as it links the adoptive name and birth names. However, the index to the ACR is available at a handful of areas in England and Wales.

Only the adopted person is allowed to access to their adoption records. Once the a/person has died I understand no-one can access any information off the files... which is sad for their children needing information. When the UK adoption laws changed in 2005 it wasn't forwarded enough thinking to allow the children of adoptees legal rights... hoping this will change when it's next reviewed.

Where I live in Australia the children of adoptees have the legal right for information off their parents file :-)

He was definitely adopted by Mr Lillie and went on to run the family busness. The birthplace should be Shrewley in Warwickshire according to another record I have seen. You're right I will order the birth cert.

What makes you think he was adopted? Maybe he was just visiting in 1901?

1901 says he was born 'Shewby' Warks. I cant find 'Shewby' anywhere! can you?

Births Sep 1890
Clark William Henry Aston 6d 404

'Aston' is Birmingham.
Have you got this birth cert?
What are his Parents names and his Fathers occupation? (this info will be on the birth cert)

In 1890 there was no such thing as legal Adoption so their will be no records for that time

A relative of mine, William Henry Clark born 1890 in Warwickshire was, I believe adopted. I have him on 1901 census living as a boarder with Adam Lillie in Portsmouth. Does anyone know what if any records there are on adoptions or how I can find out any more about this???
