I have not looked for the birth certificate after 1936 since I know that the birth took place in 1920.

I do not have the birth certificate. I have just started to research this side of the family, and know that Henry's birth was 1921, and found that the mother's maiden name was Roberts. I then looked for Henry's parents marriage and was surprised that it was not until 1936. Why would both parents be shown on the free bmd when they weren't married at the time of the child's birth?

Im not sure what your query is Rachel? On Henrys birth cert was his father given? If not it means mum had him illegitimately

Hello,

I have a Henry Wood who married a Winifred Roberts in Birkenhead in 1936; however, their son's birth Henry was registered in 1921 with the mother's maiden name of Roberts. So how can this be? Any help/suggestions welcome.

Regards
