Thanks - I will send for this certificate then!

I'm used to seeing wierd spelling variations on the Census returns but thought the actual Register would be correct.

Frances :-)

Having Tyrrells in my family tree. Believe me that mistakes are made left right and centre. This surname has a history for mistranscription and error. Thinking laterally is the way to go here.

Cheers ~ Steve.

Hi there, I'm trying to trace the Birth for Jane Tyrrell - I know from Census returns that she was born around 1862 in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.

I've searched BMD and individual quarters on Ancestry for the birth but there is nothing under Tyrrell or variations on spelling.

I've just found a birth entry on BMD for a Jane TERRELL in December 1861 in Melksham, Wilts.

Is Melksham near Trowbridge? Is it likely that this is my Jane? If so, I didn't think they made spelling mistakes in such important registers!

I will probably send for the certificate but wanted your opinions first!

Many thanks.
