Thanks for the replies peeps.

I have a bit of experience with excel so can manage that but access I have never used. I think i'll take a look at FTM lots of people talk about that.

Thanks again

FTM = Family Tree Maker. It's a family tree program sold by Ancestry: http://www.familytreemaker.com/

Thanks

I use FTM for my main data, but also Microsoft Excel for census & certificate transcripts and Microsoft Access for details of photos. In both cases I cross-reference each individual with the Reference Number that is automatically assigned by FTM when the individual is added in that program.

The advantage of using Excel & Access is that I can set up hyperlinks to the actual document (so that I can view it at a click), whereas to do the same in FTM I would have to embed the image into the FTM file. With several thousand documents, the size of the FTM file would soon become unmanageable!

Does anyone use a database for all their info.

I was thinking of doing this.
Does anyone know how this can be done and would it help keeping track of people and info I have on them.

When I looked at my family I have about 500 people, about 300 of them are verified and 100 more I know are certain and dont need to be so thats about 400 people to add, do you think this would be a waste of hours of work.

Any advice or ideas welcome

Kaz
