The answer to your question is YES. Alternate spellings are often recorded if the spelling of the name is not certain.

As already said, you can order the marriage certificate by just giving the groom's name.

If you want to buy a BMD cert, heres how and here
is the addy where you can buy it online... (copy n paste the following...)

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

(tip)Never pay more than £7
(another tip) for a marriage, you only need
put one partners name when ordering.

If you are ordering online from the GRO,
make sure that when the form asks
"Is the full GRO reference known?"
that you tick the "yes" box.

Have you bought the Marriage cert? That will/should have her age on it.

Searching for the marriage of TILLING Harriet 1911 yields both Tilling Harriet and Tilling Harriett.

My query is - is it normal for names with alternate spellings to be entered twice? My great grandfather William Timms was married to Harriet Tilling but there are two - Harriett Tilling born 1873 and Harriet Tilling born 1885 and I don't know which one.
