Sorry for the delay.....

Hannah was married as Hannah PARRY,21,general servant, spinster, daughter of Edgar PARRY, carpenter ( deceased)
She married in May 1886 in Bridgend, Glamorgan to
Alfred DAVIES,23,labourer, bachelor son of William DAVIES, woodcutter.
Both William and Hannah just gave Pontycymmer as their address.

Mum used to refer to Uncle Fred visiting from Pontycymmer, so it is likely that the family stayed in the Garw valley of Glamorgan after 1901

Alfred was born in Madley, Herefordshire, c. 1862
Here are his census addreses....

1881 The Folley, Madley, Herefordshire
1891 4 Mountpleasant, Bettws, Glamorgan
1895 18 Meadow Street, Tynewydd, Llangeinor, Glamorgan
1901 9 Chapel Street, Betwys, Glamorgan

Hannah is more of a mystery.
I can't find early details for her and no Edgar father located. I have had threads about her before.
I have contacted a one name study PARRY researcher and she couldn't find Edgar either.

Perhaps he never existed, although William and Hannah did name one of their sons Edgar.

I haven't got William Alfred's birth certificate.
I have got the 1895 certificate for his brother Daniel DAVIES, a closer relative.

Hi Gwyn

I'm happy to try and help - especially as I also have lots of Davies in Wales and know what a nightmare finding ANYTHING is! (Funnily enough I also have a Hannah, who married David Davies and was my g-g-grandmother).

Can you tell me whether Davies was your Hannah's maiden name or married name? Do you have any census returns that she definitely appears on (i.e. 1881, 1891 or 1901)?

Have you got William Alfred's birth certificate (or can you find it by working back from his age on his marriage certificate) in order to clarify that he is indeed the son of Hannah?

If Hannah married in 1886, aged 21, then she must have been aged 44 when William married in 1909 and must therefore have been quite old giving birth to Bert and the baby which caused her death.

Are you sure that the dates etc. you have are correct?

Anyway, I know I have only asked more questions rather than answered yours, but hopefully this additional info may lead us to the truth!

Regards, Ellie

Are you brave enough to look for DAVIES in Wales ?

I am trying to find the death of a Hannah DAVIES, probably in the Bridgend area of South Wales.
I've been talking to her grandaughter tonight, b. 1921, hoping for more clues. She thinks Hannah died in childbirth, when another of her children 'Bert' was about 2 years old.
She thinks another son was married by then and his wife took in Bert and brought him up.
I think the elder son may be William Alfred DAVIES who married in Dec Q. 1909..

Hannah had married in 1886 and her age shown as 21.
I can't seem to find a Hannah of the right age dying, ...
Can you please?

Gwyn
