Helen

This is quite near where I live, I can't say I know one bit of the village from another (it's not really a village at all) but Betty's comments don't surprise me because the whole area looks well cared for.

The British Legion is actually a local employer, somewhere around there is a factory where they make poppies ready for Remembrance Day.

Over the road from the "village" is Preston Hall hospital, I'm not quite sure what it's used for now.It is still a hospital of some description, but until fairly recently it was a chest hospital, specialising in diseases such as TB. Maybe he was being treated there, they knew he was not going to make it and he wanted to die at home - 50 yards away. Maybe the hospital might have some notes?

Royal British Legion Village

The Royal British Legion headquarters are located in Aylesford. Situated off Hall Road to the south of the Parish, the HQ buildings are surrounded by light commercial buildings, offices and a good deal of housing.

Attached to the British Legion HQ is an estate of various sized dwellings and social housing many of which are occupied by the elderly.

The ministry team visit this estate on a regular basis and take communion monthly.

The parish has good relations with the Royal British Legion, who use the church on occasion, and also assist in Remembrance Day worship.

Hello, I was was wondering if anyone on here knows Aylesford, Kent, ME20 7NN

I've just received my great great uncle's death cert and his place of death is given as 17 London Road East, Aylesford. I had a look on the Royal Mail site to see if the address still existed. Well it does, and the full address is 17 London Road East, British Legion Village, Aylesford.

My Aunt also thought he died in a TB clinic (she was correct in that TB was the cause of his death) Would this address have had something to do with the British Legion back in 1947? (when he died)

William Earls was a bombardier in the Royal Field Artillery and fought in the first world war.

I'd really appreciate any comments on the address around 1947 - what was it? and what it is like now.

Hope I make sense!
