Are you sure you need to put mum's name in? Quite often on baptism records the mother's name does not show at all ...

Hi Kathleen,
You only need to insert fathers name.

It depends. You can search batch numbers with father only but not a general search.

Hi, thanks to all who answerd my request. I have tried putting in just the Fathers name but am told I must also have mothers name to do a search for their children. Yes I also have tried by putting childrens names in and have had a few results, I wanted to find if there were any children that I might not have found, I am sure that you could just put fathers name at one time and results came up, maybe its changed as I have not used the LDS site for a while.
Thanks to all

Kathy

Have you tried searching with the father's Christian name and Surname and only the mother's Christian name?

It can sometimes bring up a few more children if all other details fit in with yours. But the only way to prove..would be to get a birth certificate if it was 1837 onwards.

Regards..Teresa

Kathy,

I think what you are referring to is the option to search on a particulat batch for possible related children.

The process is as follows.

First of all you need to identify a batch number which is likely to have the family you want. This can often be done by searching for the child by name (no parents) and when you strike lucky, making a note of the relevant batch number.

This only really works for IGI Extracted entries with a batch number, not submitted ones.

You then go back to the search page, re-enter the batch number, if it isn't still there, then blank the christian name but leave the surname. Then (optionally) enter the father and or mother's first name.

I find it best to leave these blank first time around as sometimes a misspelling can hide the very names you want to find. If you get to many hits to check individually then go back and add the father's name, and then if still to many, the mother's as well.

Hit the search button and you will see all related entries for this batch, filtered also by any additional search data you have entered.

Sounds complicated but is straightforward once you have tried it a few times.

You don't need the batch no., only the likely place/places. Then use the Hugh Wallis site (Google for the address) to get the births and/or marriages for the name you want.
