Ancestry has a surname mapping facility for England, Scotland and Wales for the 1891 census:

the address for the national trust site is
http://www.nationaltrustnames.org.uk/

I have just checked it and it does seem to be having some problems at the moment but this is where I found name mapping for 1881 and 1998, and only a surname was required.

Hi Mick

I can't get on the National Trust website as it says it is busy and am not sure how you have searched back as it won't let me search without putting a christian name in ?

Thanks

Melanie

Doesn´t Genuki.uk do it as well? I think I got my mapping from there.

Is there a website to show where concentrations of people with a certain surname are living at different periods in time ?

Mines a Burns and want to see whether it's more Irish or Scottish.

Thanks

Melanie
