Hi

I have just got the details of the Medal Card for my Grandads Brother Enoch Spencer.
Enoch survived WW1.

In the remarks section it says the followimg:

"Vic Medal retd (1143 K.R.& R.P)"

Does anybody know what it means?

Looks like his medal was with held under paragraph 1143 of the kings regulations

Vic Medal = victoria medal

not sure what paragraph 1143 is

I'm only guessing, but could it mean the Victory Medal was returned and the numbers and letters in brackets are something to do with a list of reasons why it was returned.

Hopefully someone else with more knowledge about these things can help you properly.

I just checked the medal card and it is not Para 1143

but

para 1743 KR looks like its unclaimed medals

Kings Regulations (1912) para 1743 states:

"Medals which, at the end of 10 years, still remain unclaimed, will be sent to ... the deputy director of ordnance stores, Royal Dockyard (Medal Branch), Woolwich ... to be broken up."

Hi Porkie Pie

Thank you, that does make sense.

When he returned after the War he was suffering with what today would be called "Shell Shock" or "Post Traumatic Stress".

He never lived in a house but was a Tramp and wandered the roads.

The family don't even know where or when he died.
He was last seen in 1942.

Thank you again

Cheryl
