Alison,

I don't have anything concrete to suggest for your research, but would say that the Children's Society were very helpful with my research into my father's history. He had been placed in care because of bereavement and his own suspected TB.

They could not give me photocopies of the file, but did give me a comprehensive listing of the details. (It was earlier than you are searching, but they were very kind and found a file, closed in 1913, in their archives. The complete file would only have been open to my deceased father.)

Good luck in your research.

hi -
i only found out a few yrs ago that my dad (benjamin thomas dob 05/12/53) was fostered from being a young age , sadly my dad passed away 23yrs ago &never got to do this himself - all i had to go on was his birth cert which only states his mother and address...mum is lily thomas of 6 clements rd ramsgate. this is where it gets confusing - did other researching and found in 1951 a marriage cert for a lily thomas formerly chick (divorced wife of james r thomas) & benjamin smith at same address but this stated that lily was 50yr and benjamin.s was 47yrs so i presumed that lily was too old to look after my dad thats why he was given up. but then did other searching and found a marriage cert for lily chick to james r thomas in 1923..then after this found birth certs for 4 other children - 1 of them being a daughter called lily thomas born in 1933!...(waiting on birth cert to arrive) so is this my dads mum as she would have been 20yrs old when my dad was born & unmarried..i would like to find out anything i can on the lily thomas the daughter but dont know where to start?....i have found out also that my dad was in the care of the childrens society and im waiting to hear what details they hold.....any help & advice greatly recieved..
