LOL, Mike I had something similar - found someone on here had lots of hotmatches. I was so excited. Then I asked him where he had obtained all this stuff "a very good site called familysearch.org" pmsl - he had just copied all my stuff from years back which I am ashamed to say had many errors due to a newbies enthusiasm.

I did point out that he had gone doolally somewhere as he had his GGM marrying at the age of 6 months but that didnt seem to deter him - it was all correct as far as he was concerned.

Linda,

Thanks for your input and explanation in searching out LDS information.

Useful knowledge.

On some parish records, the priest has been very helpful and written the actual date of birth in the margin of the book, but this is not very common.
Some submitted records are fine, they have been sent in by someone trying to be helpful after visiting a records office, but as mentioned above others are not to be trusted, it is very easy to submit a record.

You need to check the originals yourself by either going to the records office, or by ordering the fiche to your nearest LDS centre

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/

is the link to the Hugh Wallis batch numbers. Choose Surrey, then you can see which churches have been transcribed for which years

LDS centres

Open the page www.familysearch.org/Eng/
From the blue bar across the top, choose Family History Library Catalogue, then place search.
Use the search box to look for the village you need. You can then see which films the LDS hold, but have not been transcribed yet (compare them with the Hugh Wallis Batch numbers).
You can then order the relevant micro film to your nearest LDS centre.
To find your nearest centre, go back to the original blue search bar and choose Family History Centres. You need to go in person to order the film, there is a small charge.

Thanks Peter,

For the information.

The birth and christening took place in 1859 in Southwark, Surrey.

The problem with submitted records is that you do not know the source of the information.

It could be taken from the original Parish Register and yes this could well have recorded the date of birth, of it could be from some other source. You have no way of telling.

Parish registers can often be viewed at the Local Record Centre for the area / county concerned.

What are the details in this case?

There is a submitted record on the IGI which gives a birth and a christening for 1859.

I take it whoever submitted this information must have taken it from a christening record where the date of birth would also have been recorded?

Is it usual for both dates to be noted on christening records? and would this able to be found and read?

Thanks!
