On the death information it shows MurieEl J Keegan aged 31 death registered in Uxbridge in March 1957. Therefore there are a couole of 'male' Keegan births registered in Ealing - could they be the child?

Karen

You mention 4 children......I have searched from the time of their marriage in 1946 to Murial's death in 1957 and can only find 2 births, John in 1947 and Paul in 1952. Where have you found info about the other 2 children?

What about the husband John.....what happened to him, did he remarry? Who's family arranged to have the children adopted.....Murial's or John's?

mary, thank you for reposting, appreciated.
That birth is the birth of my uncle who was also later adopted.
My granmother, murial joan keegan(nee guyatt) died in feb 1957. She gave birth to a baby a few months befor she died. The family new she was ill so had arranged to have the baby adopted.(as they had 4 children) My father was only 6 at the time so is not to sure when the baby was born but it was not much befor when his mother passed away. Because of the circumstances I woundered if the birth was hidden and registered in the new parents name. I want to find him but cannot register with an adoption finder unless I have a dob. Its givng me one heck of a headache ! oh and they where in the RAF at the time just to complicate things !

That was me above I accidentally sent it before I'd finished.

Barry I have found babies on the index that were not given a first name at registration. It appears that the child was later re-registered.

I have a friend who is adopted. She has twin brothers also adopted. They were registered as baby 1 and baby 2. I was sceptical of this and wrote to GRO and yes it is possible for an adoption to go through when a child has not been given a birth name.

Cheers Gerry

Thank you Barry :-))

People often assume that the adopted child would have been a baby but as we know they are sometimes a little older, so was just a case of going back until found :-))

Birth registrations cannot be removed from the birth index/register by law. They can only be amended.

The child is placed on the Adopted Children Register after the adoption is granted in the court.

You might like to widen your search on the birth index. Have you checked the birth in the mother's maiden name? The child might not be her husbands and the reason for the adoption (just a thought)

If the adoption was legal, the baby wouldn't have been registered in the adoptive parents names.

Cheers Gerry

The birth registation will have been removed OR you will be able to get it then when you try to order the birth certificate you will be asked lots of questions that you wont know the answers to ...then they will tell you to write to them and they will give you the social services numbers .....

Long winded as a friend of mine just did this for herself

can anyone help ?? searching for the birth of a child that I know was adopted around 1956./7 I only know his birth surname and his mother and fathers names. However, I cannot find his birth. Does anyone know if births would have been registered as they are now in the 50s. ie a regestration letter from the hospital with parent details ? I am woundering if the child could have been registerd under his adoptive parents posing as his birth parents ???
(baby Keegan, male born late 56 - 57 mother Joan Murial Keegan nee Guyatt ,father John Keegan)
