The 1901 census was taken on 31 March 1901. Therefore, depending on when her birthday was she could have been born any time between 1 April 1876 and 30 March 1878.

Something doesn't quite add up here does it? Her age could have been slightly out on the census but I wouldn't have thought by much - at least not on the 1901 as she must have had some education. 17 does seem a bit young to have married though - not outside the realms of possibility granted but a bit young.

Well, hang on to that birth ref just in case she turns out to be slightly older. The age on the marriage cert will probably be the accurate one. Hubby may have given the details on the census and not been 100% sure of her age.

This one sort of fits for age and place:

If she married in 1894 she was probably a bit older than 17. Might be worth checking on Mary Aish born c. 1874 +/- 2 years.

I think you will find it difficult as there are 944 Chick births between 1894 and 1911 when the mother's maiden name started to be recorded.

Have you found the family in the 1901 census? Where would they be living?

Hi Alison

Mothers maiden names were only recorded from 1911 onwards.
