It might be worth checking that address in the electoral lists to see who lived there in subsequent years.
When your Lily disappears may be the time she married....
Remember the lists are a few months out of date when they are released.

Got it, you are looking for a marriage of Lily Thomas in the Ramsgate area, some time after 1953 when she had your father. Plus any children from that marriage, or any other children with the surname Thomas in case she didn't marry.

The problem is that there is no quick search for what you are asking.
there is a website called freebmd, which allows you to search for births marriages and deaths. It is also copied onto the Ancestry website which is a subscription site.

Free bmd is an ongoing project and the marriages are only transcribed until the mid 1920's at the moment.

From 1984 onwards, the ancestry website has all the bmd's in an easily searchable format.

between the mid 1920's and 1984, they are only available on line on subscription sites such as Ancestry, but it is a tedious job because it means looking at the original images quarter by quarter until you find what you are after

Alison, I htink I've got it now. You are looking for a marriage/other children of your grandmother Lily Thomas born 1933?
I think without some clues as to her whereabouts or another name that you are facing an impossible task as there must be 100's of women with the name Lily Thomas.

Sorry Jennifer

I don't understand what you are saying

Your husbands mother is Lily Thomas born 1933 and you have already sent away for her birth certificate, so you can find her parents and follow that line back.

Presumably you know her married name? isn't that your husbands name? So you need to look through the complete Ancestry marriage records quarter by quarter from the age when she was 16 until you find a marriage between her and MR ? (her married surname). If you know when her first child was born, that should help to narrow the search down

I have just read what the others have posted while I was typing and I am even more confused now, not that it takes much to do that!!!!

I'm not being clear either - too much lunch !

What I mean is that Lily's father is
???? Thomas, then against Lily's birth registration in 1933 there will be her mother's maiden name....for example Smith
Then you go backwards from 1933 looking at the marriages between ????? Thomas and ????Smith to find the names of her parents...simpler to wait for the certificate maybe ?

Alison, when you get the birth cert it will have Lily's mother's first name and maiden name and her father's full name, so as Seaham Lass says, you then have to search for a marriage between those 2 people i.e. a Mr (whatever his first name turns out to be) Thomas and the name of Lily's mother.

I have just re-read your post and what you want is to find out about Lily? On your father's birth cert is his father's name given?

hi,
i dont think i explained it clearly...the lily i need to find info on was born "lily thomas" in 1933 i think id have to order every cert for a lily thomas's marriage from a decent age to marry to check on the birth date to confirm its her....

I don't think that there is much more you can do until Lily's birth certificate arrives other than trawl through the marriage records for a marriage between a Mr Thomas and someone with Lily's mother's maiden name....waiting for those certificates is a nightmare...but when they land on the mat...whooppeee
