maiden names

why is it that when i am searching for a person in the births, eg brown does it show that the mothers maiden name was also brown i am new to this so help would be appreciated

Hi Eileen,

9/10 cases it indicates the child was born to a single mother,,,then the other could be a case of 2 people of the same surname marrying,,

thanks that is what i thiought also but thought it was too simple to be right !!!
