Yes, read the Tips for Newbies - re the date of birth you cant find - the date given on a death cert is as good as the person giving it. They can be years out - the informant of the death may just guess at the year.

Greeting’s & Welcome……….. Peter.

Being the local Leicester Lad ….Can I help ?

If you post some details about the Death …Like Names & rough year.
Then I can have a look at my Burial records for both the Borough & County of Leicester.
If we are successful. .......
This will at lest give you the burial date which would narrow it down to at lest 7~14 days.

Don’t forget that if you order the certificate from local Offices
Then Leicester is split …..
City. ……. c/o ..Town Hall.
County…….c/o County Hall.

Plus the G.R.O. Ref No’s are of no use to them they have their own system.

MIKE.

Unless you are talking about a recent death (within 50 years?) it is not necessary to have the exact date of death to order the certificate. All you need is the name and GRO index reference. In fact you won't find a date of death at all on any of the sites that have access to the GRO indices.

As Alice says, if you are stuck just ask and someone is sure to help.

you can order the death cert from the GRO without a date of death you will need the GRO reference, you get the reference from the GRO index, so you will need the persons name year, quarter, district vol and page number

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

the cert will cost you £7 and you can order it online

If you give me the details i will have a look for the birth

also remember when searching on the index that you have 6 weeks to register a birth so it is often found in the following quarter

I have just joined the site, I can see lots of messages praising the site, but I don't quite get it. I can find two entries I want to pursue, both DOD, wlll within a three month field. In order to order a copy of a death certificate on line I need the exact date of death, which cannot be determined from the photo copied entries. I can apply by post to the local BM&D office (Leicester) along with payment. At this point I'm wondering how is it possible to apply for a death cert
on line? It seems that I need to apply to Leicester directly as no exact date of death is available from the genes reunited site.

Secondly I have a DOB from a death entry but no corresponding birth record can be found! How do I get past this obstacle?
