I am trying to find out my great grandmothers surname, i was going to get a copy of my grandmothers birth certificate who was born in 1894 but read that mothers maiden name would not be on the cert as this didn't happen untill 1911. i would appriciate any advice.

Her mother's maiden name will be on the certificate, but it doesn't show up on the indexes until around 1911.

Mothers maiden names are included on all birth certificates, it is just the Indexes that didn't list them until 1911.
