New York Passenger Lists?

Thanks Margaret

John was a champion runner and went to Ireland in the 1860s. He became a backer to boxer Jem Mace who went to New York in 1869 - I was wondering if John went with him as I can find no death record for him and newspaper reports just trail off in the mid 1860s.

I know John was dead by 1880 from his widow's death certificate.

Can anyone out there with the world subscription to Ancestry have a look at the emigration records?

Thanks
Alison

Ellis Island records don't start until 1892.

Thanks for this Marian, I wasn't aware of this site. He is not coming up with a search.

But neither is his associate who we know did go to New York in 1869.

Hi
Have you tried www.ellisisland.org. This records most passengers who land in New York via Ellis Island. You may have to try a variation on the spelling of his surname.

the 1880 US census has 8 John Levitt/Levett/Leavetts/Livitts born England. Do you have a birth year?

Does any kind soul have the world subscription to Ancestry?
I am wondering if an ancestor called John Levett emigrated to New York in 1869?

Thank you.
