Heather

Apologies for not coming back to you sooner. I didn't get on here yesterday.

I have checked the census for Charles Butler and cannot find him.

I have also checked the deaths and their are none for a Charles Edward.

Sorry I had to rush. I take it you have checked the census for this Butler boy - in case he comes up?

I have just been doing a bit more research on this and found a George Baines marrying a Mary Ann Butler in 1858 in the district of Ecclesall B.

I've also found this entry for a Mary Butler on the 1851 census

Mary Butler
Age: 21
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1830
Relation: Wifes Sister (Sister-in-law)
Gender: Female
Where born: Pitsmoor Shefd, Yorkshire, England

Civil Parish: Ecclesall Bierlow
Ecclesiastical parish: Broom Hall
Town: Sheffield
County/Island: Yorkshire
Country: England

Disability: View Image

Registration district: Ecclesall Bierlow
Sub registration district: Ecclesall Bierlow
ED, institution, or vessel: 1h

Household Members: Name Age
Mary Butler 21
Aaron Fairest 36

Then I have found a birth reg for a Charles Edward Butler in the June qtr of 1851 in Hunslet.

Do you think this is a possibility and that Charles wasn't a Baines after all?

Look forward to your comments.

No Heather I have not found them on the 1851 census.

This family are a mystery. I know that George married a Emily Clark in 1846, had John William in 1847 and George Henry in 1849.

Then on the 1861 census, George is married to Mary Ann with George Henry and Charles E. No sign of John William.

Did George marry Emily? Have you looked under her surname for the birth?

Hi Heather, thanks for your response, I have checked freebmd.

Hi Eric, thanks for your response, maybe it was as George would be 11 in 1861, so maybe Charles was 13. I will check 1848 as I know George senior had a son John William born 15/3/1847 with an Emily Clark who was also Georges mother.

Thanks
Jo

My goodness, take it this is George junior on the 1851 - check out the census image - anyone who complains about mistrans, its a miracle they get anything off this copy.

Record

George Baines abt 1848 Leeds, Yorkshire, England Grandson Roystone, Yorkshire

Have you found mum and dad on the 1851?
