New South Wales Corps. Australia 1800's

I wonder if anyone could help me? One of my ancestors Isaac Ewing (Ewin, Ewen,) was in the NSW Corps. He went to Australia in 1791.
In December 1806 he married a woman Elizabeth Eadley (headly, Hadley).
She was the widow of another soldier called Joseph Hadley who had arrived in Sydney in May 1804 on the "Coromandel". Joseph Hadley died 4th Nov 1806. His gravestone records him as "Joseph Edley".
Joseph and Elizabeth had a son in 1804 who was also called Joseph.

That out of the way, what I'm wondering is this... If Joseph (senior) arrived in Sydney in May 1804 and Joseph (Junior) was born in 1804, then even if he was born in December 1804 that still makes him at least 2 months premature.
It is unlikey that Joseph and Elizabeth had met on his first day in Sydney and got very friendly, it is more unlikey that they would have "made" Joseph
So I think it is ok to assume that Elizabeth wasn't a convict already in Sydney when Joseph arrived.
So did Elizabeth travel with her husband Joseph from England as a soldiers wife? He was just a private. Did soldiers wives accompany their husbands to the colonies? Was this common practice. Is there anywhere that I can look to find out if this was the case?
Or did Joseph meet a female convict on the ship the Coromandel and marry her during the voyage? That seems very unlikey.
I can find no record of Joseph Hadley marrying anyone in Australia.

Any help or suggestions would be gratefully recieved

Debbie - you could have Joseph's d cert (1806) checked out - they usually give lots of info. (details of arrival/wife/chn etc). 'Joy Murrin's Transcription Agency' (on-line) will check the cert for you (fee about $15). ........ There's an 'interesting' death shown for 'Joseph Hadley' d 1863 age 60yrs (Reg no. 2004/1863) -the cert would show parents' names etc. ....Maybe 'Isaac & Elizabeth's marriage cert would show the correct spelling of her former name/s -I expect she had to produce a death cert of her former husband to marry again. .......Valerie
