I've been to the history centre in Worcestershire and found a marriage that I had been looking for. Problem now is how can I find out estimate birth years for both bride and groom and how do you found out who there parents are? The birth was recorded October 1807 in Bredon, Worcestershire. I have looked at the parish record and the only information that was on it was bride and grooms name, date and the person who performed the ceremony!

It had written at the bottom "In the prefence of Sarah Nicholls" I take it that meant presence?

Help please!!!

Do you mean the marriage was Oct 1807? I have also had this problem with early parish records, doesnt seem to give the info until official registration. Sarah Nicholls must be a witness, the f is an old fashioned s, could she be a relative?

Muppet! Yes, the marriage was in October 1807! Sarah Nicholls could be a relative, but without further info I don't know how to find that out. I would guess that she was related to the bride but I don't know how to find that out. I've looked on Family Search and the marriage isn't even showing on there! How do you overcome this?

As the records on Family Search are copied from the parish records which you have looked at, the site wouldn't give you anymore info.

Can you find the couple on any census which might give their age?

I've tried looking on the 1841 and 51 census but there is no records for a William and Sarah that live together. If one died before this date then I'm stuffed!

Does it say the couple were OTP? In which case you could have possibly looked backwards through the register for their baptisms. Did it not even say of full age?

What are these peoples details so we can all have a look for them in 1841?

Thanks Heather.

William Trenfield and Sarah Kirby. Married 12th October 1807 in Bredon, Worcestershire.

Doesn't even say that their age was full. The records that I looked through were like a A4 page and there were 3 entries to a page so there was very limited information.

Hi, not got time to search at mo, but a quick look on the 1881 brought up this guy - what do you reckon? Williams son? If your William was also a wealthy farmer, have you checked for Wills.

Will have a proper look later or tomorrow - got some invoice to type for the morning now :)

Sarah,

The normal procedure now is to go back to the parish register and extract all the baptisms, marriages and burials with the relevant names and try to link them up into families. One line at least should be in the parish but for the other you may have to trawl contiguous parishes. This may take some time but it is immensely satisfying and it gives you much greater certainty than a single entry plucked from the IGI.

Good luck,

Peter

What a shame, dont seem to be around on the 1841 do they. Ill have a better look tomorrow. Theres a few possible rellies in Bredon and then a large clutch with that name in Gloucestershire.

Thanks for all your help. The Trenfields that you have found are the "rich" Trenfields which, unfortunately are not mine! I think it's a case of going back to the parish records and trying to find all the Trenfields I can and try and match them up.
