Thanks Shelly & Rose, I am only taking his name with a pinch of salt, to be honest. But I have found out lots more about him today. Found out that after he got married he joined the Australian Army. The plot thickens!!

Don't put much faith in that name. Putting down a name on the marriage cert. is all about saving face.

Out of interest, was he called "John" and deceased? That appears to be the usual M.O.

I decided to send for the marriage certificate of my grandad's brother (they were both illegitimate) and what a surprise, it named his father!

Hope they were'nt making it up though and it's such a common name, that I doubt if I'll get any further anyway!
