Missing Record?

I may have uncovered why I could not find that record on GR record indexes.

When I search on GR for Stagg J-M 1934. It says the page I can view covers the records SPURWAY S to STAMPS M. But when I actually view it, it goes from Spurway to Steffiagio or something, but not as far as Stagg.

I've e-mailed GR to see if they can trace it for me. Otherwise I shall take a trip to the records office now I know Hatfield is my aim.

I shall also investigate possible brothers again.

Thank you!

Hi all, sorry for the delays! Thank you all so much for your help. Yes, Alfred Stagg (my Great Grandfather - Alfred William's Father) married Violet Lillian Heath on 06-09-1930.

Kay, thank you for that, I will investigate further, but that sounds very promising.

And for all those other "Stagg" 's mentioned, I will cross ref them with my tree. I have gone back a further 6 generations, and have some promising "hit matches" it was the absence of the birth record that was puzzling me.

I cannot thank you all enough for the effort you've all put in to help me. I shall be pre-occupied with this all weekend now!

Thank you again!

Hi Kay
Yes looking further in the index I se that there seems to be two Stagg / Heath families.
There is another sibling born in Hatfield
Lilian J b 1938

AND someone on GR has both Cyril and Lilian on their trees !!!!

Hope Keri sees this.
Off to buy uniforms now
Will pop back on later to see if Keri has been and seen
Bye for now

Hi Keri
I may be well off the mark here but when searching the index for you I came across ARTHUR William Stagg mmn Heath in j-m 1933 Winchester and also a Shirley Stagg mmn Heath in j-m 1935.
Do these mean anything to you ?

Do you know when Alfred's parent's married and what their names are?

Keri

Keri Report 23 Aug 2008 09:41

Marriage on 21-05-1955 he was listed as 21. My Nan (his wife) was born in 1936. All of his children have also given this date as his DOB. - Which if the date is wrong, would explain why it was wrong on his death cert as they would have registered it.

Keri

I wouldn't know about GR as i haven't used them

I have Ancestry and he isn't in the Qtrs i posted above, so that suggests that his birth on his Death cert is wrong.

What is his age given as on his Marriage cert

I have looked at every quarter on GR births record index from Jan 1932 - Jan 1937 Searching the Surname Stagg. Are the records on GR not every index? Sorry, like I said, it's all new to me!

Have just looked, he isn't in the last Qtr of 1934 nor the 1st Qtr of 1935

Marriage & Deaths records can be out for the ages

You'll need the complete index

Which is on Ancestry which you'll need to subcribe to or Find my Pasts which you need to buy credits for

Hi all,

I'm new to this, and am a little stuck with something. I've been accessing BMD records, to find family details, and to order certificates.

However, I can't find any record of my Grandfathers Birth. I know he was born on 26/12/1934 as Alfred William Stagg. Somewhere in Hertfordshire probably. I have record of his marriage in 1955, and his death in 1988 - for which the record and certificate also contain his DOB.

I have tried to request a Certificate of Birth from the GRO around 4 weeks ago, but as I don't know where the birth was registered as I can't find the record in any of the indexes for his surname from 1932-1936. Therefore, I'm not sure if they will be able to send me a copy of the Certificate.

I'm keen to have as much info as possible as his mother was a Barnardo's child, and given the surname Heath as this is where she was found.

Is there any reason why there wouldn't be an entry?

Any help would be appreciated.
