Marriage certificate

Hello,

I have a marriage certificate for a Thomas Henry Johnson aged 24 and Georgina Barker aged 21 - both are living in Liverpool. The date of the certificate is 20.12.1898.

Thomas' father is Charles Johnson - a boiler maker - I have found him on earlier census.'

Georgina's father is Morris Praiker or Pruiker (dead) who was a boiler maker.

I would like to find Georgina with Morris on a census if possible, as well as finding her birth reference.

All help/suggestions are welcome.

Regards

Rachel

Are you sure her father's surname is not a mangled version of Barker?

What is her marital status on the cert - is she a widow or a spinster?

Georgina's marital status on the cert is a spinster.

Have looked again at Georgina's father's name - its certainly Morris, his surname certainly starts with Pr, so am not sure if its a mangled version of Barker - but at first glances the surnames of Georgina and her father are not the same.

mmm - cannot find a Georgina with a Morris ____ at all in any of the censuses (except one in Norfolk called Morris Goose and he was an ag lab).

So, wonder if her mum re-married and she took step-dad's name - of Baker and her real father was the Praiker/Pruiker chap ...

Jill,

Thank you for your help. It could well be that her mum re-married, but I haven't found details of her mum's marriage to see her condition to marriage; and I don't know Georgina's birth ref to see the names of the parents on it.

It would be great if you could find any of the above.

The 1901 census says she was born in Liverpool in 1877.The way the ages on the census work out, there is more probability, that she was born in 1876, but i can't find a birth reference for a Georgina Barker in Liverpool in either years

I would guess that the place of birth shown in 1901 is just because she was living there and that happens quite a lot of times on the census

Maybe Georgina was registered under her father's name, then her mother remarried, but I don't know the name of her mother....

A bit strange that both fathers have the same occupation. I do realise it can happen.

I thought that. The addresses for both Thomas and Georgina are the same (but I've seen that on other marriage certs). The witnesses are James Hainpton and ??? Roberts.
