Hi all
I am after some much needed advice!!
My great uncle Michael Brennan was a merchant seaman. He was aboard the H.M.H.S. Llandovery Castle when it was torpedoed and he lost his life. 27/06/1918. The incident was well documented and big news at the time. There later followed a war crimes trial after the war.

However, I am having difficulty obtaining his death certificate. I contacted the GRO who advised me to put the ships name as the place of death. I tried to order a certificate on line, doing as advised above and putting all the other relevant info. I paid £10 as I did not know the GRO index number. A week later I received a certificate for a lady with the same surname!!!!!

I did not think he would be listed in any military listings as he was a merchant seaman. I have however found in the army list a Michael Brennan but with the rank of Pte. R.M.F and a military number, could this be him??? I know he is on the war memorial at Tower Hill.
I am reluctant to order any more certificates as I now have 5 unwanted ones, ( will be putting these on www.bmdshare.com ) !!

Any advice would be appreciated

Vicki
