Ok thankyou Gwyn.
And thankyou Jim, i didnt know he had sisters.
I know he had a brother because i met him at his funeral, he looked so much like him that i was shocked! I cant remember what his name was and there is no way of contacting him.

Leanne
It would seem that his birth was re registered for some reason.

If you order using the details Keith has given, ie.
Stephen B.GREGG
December quarter 1928
Vol 1c ..page 414

you will get the correct certificate.

DON'T put the full middle name, just order it with the name as shown in the index.

Yes that is correct. Thankyou Gwyn, Jim, and Keith.
He died just before i married in 1981.
I will go on that site and order his birth cert to find out his parents name.
Thank you for all your help.

Gwyn, see D/28 means look at the registration in Dec 1928.

Gregg, Stephen B, Britchford, Stepney, Vol 1c page 414.

Use this reference to order the certificate.
Possibly a late registration (maybe due to the war?).

This might be the registration on the freebmd site

Births Mar 1915

GREGG Stephen B ..Britchford .. Stepney 1c See D/28

This shows his mother's maiden name as Britchford.
The note at the end shows the entry has been amended / changed.
I'm not sure what happens about ordering a cert. like that.

Perhaps someone will advise here.......

It won't be his birth you found on a census, but mention of him perhaps with his family.
You can work out from that, hopefully, ...which would be his name on the GRO index
Many can be viewed on the freebmd site

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

Then the certificate can be ordered on the government site online for £7

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

You will need his name as shown on the index, year, quarter, volume number and page number.

Do you want to post his name for others to help you search?
