Another name for Minnie?

If you can't find a child actually called Minnie I think there is a possibility that she is either the smallest child or one of the youngest. It could be a nickname.

The name Minnie is also often added to May as a pet name like Minnie May.

Thanks very much for your time and patience. It is very sad that they lost so many so young.
Thanks again

Have you looked for deaths for any of the daughters you have listed?

This is another case of childhood nicknames
The parents were Sidney James Spain and Jessie Elizabeth (Ginny) Amoss
I have found the following children
Rose Eleanor 1901
Jenny Elizabeth (Ginny) 1903 m 1926
Sidney William (Siddie) 1904
Kate A 1910
Matilda J 1912 - d1914
Eleanor Frances 1914 - d1915
Alice H 1916
Lizzie 1918
Sarah V 1920
Mary J 1924
I am still looking for Ethel, Billy (2 possibilities 1909 & 1911) & Digger. But she could be one of the above
I believe Digger died when she was 14
But that is all I can tell you.

Digger? Is that a nickname or from a census or something? Diggery shows as a forename on FreeBMD but that's a man's name ...

Hello Chris, if I were you I would try to find out about their middle names as Rose suggested.

I've got two aunties and a gran who used their middle names all the time.

When and where is Digger Spain?

Wilhelmina might be another full name.

Could just be a nickname though ...

There are a couple of possibles in Lewisham and Southwark but can't see one for Greenwich on FreeBMD.

There's quite a gap between Voilet and Rose, and Rose and Ivy.

Is it the family where Mother's maiden name is Welling?

Perhaps one had Minnie for a middle name and was known as that.

Minnie is a name in it's own right but a variant of Mary and a nickname for Minerva

Hi all
I have a family with the following daughters born in Greenwich.
Annie Holland b1899
Violet Holland b1900
Rose Holland b1908
Ivy May Holland b1913
Olive Holland b1915
My problem is that when I approached family members they remembered a Minnie.
Would any of the above names be shortened to Minnie?
Would love to know what you think

(I also have a girl called Digger - surname Spain)
Thanks
Chris
