I am trying to find George Joseph Mason born abt. 1850 St. George in the East, father John Mason - Shoemaker.

What I have found so far -

Married 1868 St. Giles in the Fields - Carpenter - aged 21
1877 (daughter's Birth Cert.) - Ink Maker
1881 with wife Martha & fam - aged 31 Stain Maker - Lambeth
1891 with wife Martha & fam - aged 41 Wood Stain Maker - Lambeth
1901 with wife Martha & fam. - aged 51 - Islington

On all these census he states born St.George in the East

My problem is I cannot find a birth for a George Mason around 1850 St. George in the East. There is a John & Sarah with a son born 1850 born St. Luke, John the father is a Shoemaker. Is there any way of being absolutely sure I have the correct parents? Any help much appreciated.

Teresa

Hi Jane

Many thanks for looking up George for me I have sent for four Birth Certificates so far, maybe he just wasn't registered. I now wonder if I will ever find his parent's?

Docklands Parish Regisers Online are in the process of transcribing St. George in the East for the period covering 1850. They should only be a week or so more. It costs £3.25 to download an image.

This could be the family in the 1851 and 1861 I have just given you.....notice the sisters name changes from Frances in 1851 to Elizabeth in 1861, the same 2 names as the girl baptised, prehaps the family had a habit of name changing...... and the birth register details you have been given above are the correct ones? ..... and Finsbury is very close to Pear Tree Street.

This must be the birth registry for the 1851/61 George and the IGI baptism records I gave you, I have also found him in 1871 married to an Elizabeth who is only 16, with a 1 month old child. So looks like this one is definetly not your George, strang coincidence about the father being called John and also a shoemaker though. Where is George living on his marriage certificate, ? who were the witnesses, this will all help track down the right parents and ensure you follow the correct line.

George Richard Mason
Year of Registration: 1849
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: St Luke
County: Middlesex

EDIT... Found this other George on the 1901, still with wife Elizabeth, so can not be your one.
