I have nudged a thread;

Gedcom files, a guide to them....

If you are trying to load (import) your tree to genes without the hassle of entering all the names/dates etc individually then the gedcom method is really the only way.

Do you have your tree on a family tree programme on your computer or on a site elsewhere on the internet?

You have to open your tre on Ancestry, then select the "manage tree" option.

From that screen you can then export your tree, (your tree is sent as a gedcom file to your e-mail) .

Save the file to your pc then import it to Genes.

It would be a lot easier if you used a software programme but at least Ancestry offer the option to export your tree nowadays.

Also, when I exported my tree from Ancestry it contained a lot of errors, especially for women - it gave their maiden names to their husbands and for all the children. So, you may have a lot of checking to do!
