Hi Linda,

I once found some parish relief records via the Access to Archives website. Worth a try!

hi
this is a bit of a long story but the outshot is can i find out if anyone was paid any sort of money for being a hardship case.
i will try and break this down as much as possible
jane ainscough c1856
marries peter aspinal 1877
have 3 children 1878/81/83
one dies 1888 aged 7 and one dies 1885 aged 2
peter aspinall dies 1877 aged 27 years
jane ainscough now jane aspinall
marries john nugent in 1885 ( think john nugent came from ireland and he was 23 when they married 8 years younger than jane )
they have 2 children
mary jane 1886
edward 1889
edward is born in the workhouse
on the 1891 john nugent is not on the census but jane is not down as a widow but as married
jane married thomas lamb in 1901 on marriage cert it says widow
i cant find any death for john nugent .
children mary and edward are in the workhouse in 1901 aged 15 and 12 years

so either john nugent died between getting married 1885 and his wife remarrying 1901 or he perhaps went back to ireland
with edward being born in the workhouse i think that jane was on her own as on the 1891 census.

i have asked if there are any records for the workhouse in question but they are no longer available so could i find out if jane ever applied for any help from the parish or local council etc..
the parish we are talking of is leigh lancashire

sorry if this was long winded. any advice would be much appreciated
thanks linda
