I have the service records for my Grandfather and it had quite a lot of detail including his height weight hair colour etc. As I have never met him it was very interesting.

It told me that he joined in the first world war and again in the second what his rank was etc.

Gave me an insight in my grandfather and was very interesting reading.

Well worth the money although I have to say it did take quite a while for them to send fhem through. I did have his service number though from his marraige cert.

Regards Paula

Hi

You download a from from http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/army.html

It costs £30, they wrote to me and said it may take 7 months, and it actually took 5 months. But I'm sure I read somewhere that it's much quicker now.

Hi Duncan,

Was that info from the MOD? How long did they take to reply?
(I realise now I should have been more specific in my original post. Sorry if I caused any confusion).

Hi Anita,

Yes well worth it. I managed to get my father-in-laws with just a name and date of birth.

His full name was Thomas Ernest Harwood, d.o.b 06/12/1923 and according to my dad, his regiment was Argyll & Sutherland.
Thank you, Pat =)

If you post his details, I will have a look on Ancestry to see if ther is anything on there about his Army days.

Do you think it's worth requesting information about someone who was in the Army if you don't know what their service number was? I'm trying to find out more about my grandfather, but I only know which regiment he was in and his date of birth.
