Like many others I have Irish Conections. I have had a few positive pointers from iNis that point me in the direction of Counties, Offaly,Roscommon and Mayo.
Has anyone experience of visiting Irish Family History Centres to try and research records? I would be greatful of any advice, tips and what sort of welcome/service they recieved. Any idea of the costs at these centres?
I dont want to take a trip and find myself sat in front of a PC doing research that I could do at home.
I have never done any physical research before, its all been online stuff.
Any advice and guidence would be most welcome.... I will of course be enjoying Irish hospitality in the liquid form and need no advice on that :)

Try using Google to find the web site of the Record office you require they usually have details of what is available to research.
Also have you tried thess sites:

Hi John

You should probably contact the ones you are interested in just google the county and family history centre to find the website.

I have looked at a few and they all seem to offer a research service rather than a facility to go and look at things yourself like our records offices.

You can though go to the central GRO in Dublin to search yourself.

Sorry for the delay in getting back.... It never ceases to amaze me on the information and sensible advice (rather than my dream world) that you get off this system. Thank you for the advice, I will be checking out the sites. I am waiting for 3 death certs, an electoral register return for 1878 and have 5 Irish searches to do before I pack a bag.
The info and advice from you all is great. Many thanks.
The Irish period I am looking at for now is around 1848 to 1860.
