Margaret, as far as I am aware, it was the responsibility of the Captain to take the census and hand in as soon as docked.

It also covers people on ships in dock at the time of the census. Never found out what happens to people on ships in transit. Anybody any idea?

On Ancestry you have to specifically click on 1901 Scotland Census, or 1901 Wales Census before you enter your search details.

Covers Scotland and Wales as well. Images are not available for Scotland unless you go to scotlandspeople, though the transcriptions are available on Ancestry for Scotland.

Hi can anyone enlighten me, does the census just cover England or does it cover Scotland as well?

Thanks
