Sue Report 1 Sep 2008 23:10

Hi all,

I have a marriage cert for:

28th March 1866

Thomas Knight age 28 Father William Knight (Shoemaker)
and
Ann Jones age 29 Father Ivan Jones (Gardener)

On later census records I have found she was born in Bala, Merionethshire.

Can anyone find her on either the 1841 or 1851 census please so I can confirm her birthplace (village)

Thank you

Sue

Sue,

When you say later census do you mean 1871 or 1881.

You have not asked for 1861

Hi Maureen,

I am OK once she is married. I was looking for the two earliest census dates cos I figured that she would still have been at home on these dates.

Hope that makes sense.

BTW The marriage was in Manchester so I am allowing for Ivan to be spelt Ifan.

Hi Sue, The closest I can find in both the 1841 and 1851 records is for an Ann Jones, born about 1836 in Bala, Merionethshire, daughter of an Evan Jones from Llangower, Merionethshire and his wife Jane. In 1851 Evan is shown as a hostler and in 1851 Ann is shown as a dressmaker, but no occupation for her father. Address in 1841 is Castle Street, Bala

Well, he could have changed his occupation from Hostler to gardener, my lot seem to change occupations on a regular basis.

Don't you just love the name Jones!

Thank you both, I'll have a look now.

Doug have you got the ref please!

On the 1871 census, Gwen Jones born in Bala went to live with Thomas and Ann(e) in Chorlton on Medlock as a servant so that name fits :-)) as they would have been sisters.

Solved, thank you.

Found the father spelt Evan on the 1861 census, right birthplace and occupation is gardener.
