Hi Peter:
You could try looking through this site:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~canns/

Some of my ancestors were in Ontario, Canada around that time, and there weren't many records. I believe Nova Scotia has even fewer records.

Cape Breton:

Have you tried googling various combinations of words: Gunn Haswell "Cape Breton" Robert's occupation

Peterkinz Report 3 Sep 2008 02:59

Robert Haswell and his wife Christina (nee Gunn) arrived in New Zealand in December 1856 from Nova Scotia with their 9 children (un-named in shipping list (ship = Gertrude)). Their youngest daughter Christina Annie married in Auckland 1870. Any ideas on how I can research them in Nova Scotia????? They seem to be from St Anne's/Cape Breton if this helps

Peter
