Has anyone come across the words "No 1" or "No One" above a name on a birth certificate. I guess it means number one, but in this case it was the 2nd John born within 2 years to same parents, so Im confused.
Thanks

Linda,

I'm not sure it is the same thing but I have sometimes seen numbers entered on a certificate relating to a marginal correction.

Yes, Peter you are probably right, there is a marginal correction. I think its strange parents named 2 sons John, do you?
I cant find a death of the first John before the second was born.

well I was looking at the 1881 census for one of mine and thought there was a mistake to see two Johns on there .one aged 4 and one aged one, thought was an enumerator mistake but NO ,they did name two boys John .one after the other, one was John Joseph and the other John Herbert and each John was later known by their second name.
Incidentally the dad was JOHN!!

Thanks for replying shirley, I can come across this on my Mams side of the family, ie, Herbert Edwin, Herburt William, Herbert Simon, etc. But
I have both Johns birth certificates and there is no middle names. It makes it very confusing. Im getting headache ;)
