Can anyone throw any light on the origins of the female christian
names - Banbaner, Nonees and Noncer which appear in my tree, as I dont seem to be getting anywhere.

Have you tried googling? Where are these births? Can you let us look at them on census or birth refs? I take it you have examined the census image to see if they have been mistranscribed?

Just tried putting those names on Ancestry.

The first one is Stamford in 1901 but she has a different christian name in 1891

The other two are Skittrell and there is a name correction added to one to read Francis


Unless I have looked at the wrong families

LOL, I thought they be mistrans. Noncer certainly looks like Frances on the census image. ALWAYS check the images and always check earlier/later census. Banaber is shown as Paulena in the previous census. See if you can find her birth ref on freebmd.

1871 is the only entry for "Noncer", not quite sure what the image says but it certainly isn't that name.

Found a Nonees Durham in 1901................reckon he is really called Norris.

Nonees is Frances, Noncer is Nancy and I haven't figured Banbaner yet. I'm wondering if the image says Barbarer as in Barbara.

It says Paulena in the previous census for Banbaner.

Sorry Heather didn't see your reply. Just looked in the full birth indexes for 1880/81. I think I've cracked it. It should be Selina born 1/4 1881
