I think the 3 Patricks born in Whitechapel 1861-1871 are all with different families.
I also don't understand Gypsyjoe's initial post completely. Does he have the 1869 b.cert giving 27 Jones Bldg as Patrick's pob. If that be the case, I would still go along with my initial view of 3 different familes, but modify it to say the two John + Ellens were probably related, probably cousins both named (maybe indirectly) after the same grandfather. Note there's two Patricks living at the same address in 1871, probably the 12 yo nephew of Julia.

Just to clarify...the John and Ellen listed above are on the 1881 Census for Wapping not Whitechapel....children born W.Chapel and youngest three b.Wapping....

The family with the twins is definately them I already have ordered certificates to double check them.

Mother is most definately Ellen.

I'm going to just try ordering the certificates but I'll list the parents names that way if they don't match they won't send them.

Does anyone remember how much that will still cost it's about £3 isn't it if they check and it's not a match.

Its a difficult one. On the 1881 there are no children apart from Patrick over the age of 10 who could tie the family together. I reckon they probably are the same family but the only way to prove it would be to order one of the siblings birth certificates. Even that could be difficult cos theres 3 Johanna Foley's born in the correct timespan 2 in Whitechapel and one Poplar.

It says he was 6.

Jobs of the father are the same.

How much older was Patrick on 1871 census.

You would need to weigh the 1871 info against other census info.
Census - in my experience - rarely recorded an exact age of anybody!!
Occupations may help.

My great grandfather Patrick was born in 1869 and at the time the family was living at 27 Jones Building Whitechapel his parents were John Foley and Ellen Foley.

On doing a 1871 census search for the family I found a John and Ellen Foley living at the above address but the age of Patrick doesn't match up, he's older on the census as is his mother. There are also extra children but that doesn't mean anything.

What are the chances do you think that there are two families with the parents called John and Ellen Foley both born in Ireland with a son Patrick living at the same address only a couple of years later, could it happen or do you think it is the same family?
