Hi Maureen,you mis-spelt that it's MSCONFIG not misconfig,try that & it should work :)
That'll stop it running at startup.
And deleteing any scheduled tasks should stop it scanning by itself.

Cheers
Adam.

Jayne
Thanks for your reply.
I dont want to remove Ad-Aware i just want to be able to use a manual scan on it.

Adam
Tried your first suggestion of typing in misconfig, just kept coming back saying 'windows cannot find file.
But, i have now gone into it via Admin tools and followed your instructions.
Fingers Crossed!!!
Many Thanks

Peter,
I have already got Norton doing that, dont want to confuse the poor thing so i think i will just leave it switched off if Adams instructions work and use it manually.

Alternatively you might want to re-schedule the scan to run automatically in the early hours of the morning.

Just to add to that, when you open adaware,on the left pane click on scan, then click on scheduler,& if any scheduled tasks appear, just delete them.
Adaware is a good program as I find it finds & deletes any tracking cookies.
Cheers
Adam.

Easiest way to do this,go to START then RUN and type msconfig into the box & hit ok or press enter, click on the startup tab, find AdAware & uncheck the box then hit ok,it'll ask you to restart your computer.
Also another good idea,if it's AdAware 2007,go to START then ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS,then SERVICES,it'll either be under adaware 2007 service or Lavasoft, then right click & go to properties, where it says startup type, choose manual and then stop the service & the service should only run when you use AdAware.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Adam.

The best way to deal with this would be to "remove" it as a programme - go to "Add or Remove" programmes via you "Control Panel", of course it will stop any scanning at all.

I have had Ad-Aware on my comp for years, just recently i was asked to remove old download and replace it with a newer version.
Since then my computer has gone so slow it is driving me mad.

It seems that everytime i switch on it starts scanning ( there is a little symbol exactly the same as Ad-aware icon, on bottom right of screen that is going round and round all the time) on clicking on it is says 'scheduled scan'.
Has anyone any idea how i can stop this please?

Thanks
Maureen
