Can anyone tell me possible reasons why some one born in 1887 and married in 1917 would not be on the 1901 census?

I may just answer my own question here, he was a soldier, therfore possibly on a post abroad.

But I don't know enough about his father or anything about any siblings so i'm quite stuck.

Any ideas anyone?

He'd be a bit young to be away with the Army.
Tell us his name and what you know about his birthplace, family names etc.

14 would have been a little young for the Boer War. What was his name?

Thanks Gwyn

I've been told he has no siblings. His name is Sydney Jennings. I know his birth, death and marriage. but i'm trying to get back further, from the marriage certificate I know his fathers name is James Jennings and he was deceased in 1917, and that is all I know about him at the minute

Where was Sydney born?

What was James' occupation?

Have you looked for Sydney with a different spelling, ..Sidney?

Most likely explanation is his mother remarried and he's under her new surname.

Have you found him in 1891?

Thanks Rose,

I had a look at this one, but no idea where James was born, and there's no Sydney on this one

How will I know whether it is or not?

I'm a bit new to this.
