Hi Rose,

I thought the Census reports weren't that reliable when it came to age as some were estimated or 'rounded up'?? I always thought the age on marriage certs were more reliable unless there was something to hide?!!

Kelly,

If anything, the census is probably more accurate than her birth cert, especially if she were older than her husband.

Sorry;

Her age on her marriage certificate was 29, which was in 1905 so born around 1876. I'm presuming the marriage cert has a more accurate version of her age than the 1901 census?!

Thank you for all your work; much appreciated.

I think you have the incorrect year for her birth seeing as she married in 1905. Do you mean c1874?

I will take a look on Findmypast.
If the family travelled the world,were they in the services? Is so, you may be able to find service records for them.

I can only answer one of these questions.

Her birth may be on the overseas indexes which can be found on "Find my past"

Hi, can anyone help...

Having looked up my husband's great grandmother on the 1901 Census, it's noted that she was born 'in Portugal (British Subject)'. This confirms some family rumours that she was born abroad. Would her birth have been registered in Portugal or would it have been registered in Britain at a later date? I cannot find her in the British listings but may not have searched far enough.

Also, I cannot find her or her parents on previous census reports until 1841/1851 - her father as a child, living with his parents. I'm presuming that the family travelled around the world so my question is, how can I possibly find out any further information for them??

And thirdly, she was supposedly born on the Britannia Royal Yacht! But, the Royal Yacht wasn't named Britannia until the current Queen came to the throne. However, apparently there was a Cutter called the Britannia around this time; but it doesn't seem likely to have had a woman giving birth on it!! Family rumour claims that the mother worked for Queen Victoria - is there anyway I can find out if this information is true???

Many, many thanks and please excuse the long windedness!

Kelly
