Have just ordered his marriage and wifes death certificate, just got to sit it out for a week til it arrives. Am running out of ideas.
Finished checking the complete BMD on ancestry now - not recorded under any surname variation between 1961 - 2005.
Where are you Stanley?!?!?? lol

Thanks boogie.
Have emailed the cemeteries department about his wifes burial.
He seems to vanish after 1961 when he retires.

Morning,
Sorry for just responding, but went to bed.

I have tried GARDNER, GARDENER and GARDINER from 1961 to 2005.
I think I will contact the cemetary department today to try and find out more about his wifes burial etc - hopefully give me an address for 1968 at the very least.
Have attempted to make contact with his brothers niece to see if she remembers anything about him, but no word as yet.
Cant find anyone of that name dying anywhere in England / Wales, let alone Oxford.
Is a mystery that is really bothering me and I dont like it!

Just a few ideas. I guess you've looked for Gardiner,Gardener etc in the death indexes. If his wife was dead then his death may have been registered by someone other than a family member. If he was elderly when he died he could have been living in a home and the informant might not have known his age. He could have died in a location other than his last known area of residence.

someone emigrated sometime after 1960?

I have no idea where to, or even if its for definite.

My gg uncle - Stanley Malcolm Robert Gardner (born Q3 1888, Oxford) doesnt seem to have died! (at least not in england or wales).
I know he was alive and kicking in 1960 as he was still working. His wife died and was buried in Oxford in 1968, but as yet I know little more. I am about 5 years of BMD records away (just finishing re-looking through them now) from the possibility of him emigrating.

Surely him being alive at the ripe old age of 120 is not a consideration?
