hi, yes i have found that arrival also...i have also found it on a u.s forces document...above mary thomas name it states "Dependants of Pfc. Harry E.Thomas, ASN 12057789, U.S Army,450 Maine St,Fort Jefferson,New York. Would this mean she married in this country and went over there?

I'm not sure that a marriage in 1946 is available on Ancestry, in general. I know that I only have access to marriages in California and one or two other states. Perhaps I don't have all options, though!

I've seen several cases where Canadians were living in Michigan for several years and then eventually returned home. While I would assume she did marry an American, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that she married a Canadian.

I haven't looked thoroughly, but this is all I can find for an arrival:

New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957
Name: Mary Thomas
Arrival Date: 4 Apr 1946
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1927
Age: 19
Ship Name: Queen Mary
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Line: 18
Microfilm Serial: T715
Microfilm Roll: T715_7084
Page Number: 18
(Listed directly under Mary is Jennifer Thomas, U.S. Cit., age 10 mos.
Both had the same "application number".)

Sounds like a GI bride then :) There are various sites if you google - you may be able to find her.

Without knowing a date for certain and the name of the husband its not going to be easy is it. Hopefully some kind soul will check 1946 on the US ancestry.

Meanwhile have a google for GI brides or British Brides in America - that sort of thing to see if anything useful comes up.

Hi,
I have been completley lost at searching for my dads aunty - i have since been sent a picture of her on her wedding day and on the back of the photo is a stamp with the place name "Michigan" so she has obviously married an american. When she went there i do not know, all i know is that she was born 18/03/1927 in newport and her name was Mary Thomas. Where can i search to see when she went to america or find the name of the man she married?..i think the date of her marriage was 22/06/1946..any help & advice much appreciated!
