Hi Sylvia

No you don't need reference numbers like you do for English ones - but put in as much info as you can. You may not get the one for your gt grandfather as you only have his father's name, depends on the name and how many were born with the same name/father's name in that year and place :-(

If you have access to a fax machine and cc or dc you can fax the form to them (saves time and postage)

Can some kind person give me some advice on how to order an Irish Birth Certificate as this will be my first time and I am getting very confused. I know I have to download a form from www.groireland.ie fill it in and post it with a cheque, but I am still uncertain what to fill in, how much to pay and where to send it.

I am trying to order the birth certificates of my gt grandparents (born 1857 & 1858) and the only information I have is their name, year of birth and place of birth – is this enough information or do you need an index reference like you do for ordering an UK certificate. I do have the parents names for my Gt Grandmother but only the father's name for my Gt Grandfather - Do I have to have both parents names to order a certificate?

Many thanks for any help.

Sylvia
