Like it, like it, good stuff.

the bit about letting the workers know when the ale was ready makes sense in a as Georgre Lynds was the Publican and all his sons were Agricultural Labourers. So maybe, and its just a maybe that George would hang a twig out his window to let his boys know to come and get a pint?! Interesting Trilly thank you.

And Jill i think i'll ring the pub and ask them.

Thanks a million

Hi Dudley
I googled it and it has it's own website with a little of it's history.
A Little Pub History
The gradual evolution of The Green Man into a pub restaurant traces its origins back to the 17th century, when the building was a farmhouse that brewed ale for the farm workers. Legend has it a green branch was hung out the upstairs window to let the workers know when the ale was ready. The Green Man is still a popular place to enjoy Real Ale.

Shot in the dark but thought i'd ask...

Found out yesterday, an ancestor was the Publican for the "Green Man" Pub in Longfield, Kent recorded in the 1841 Census. I can't go any further back in Census records (I assume) so was there some sort of Guild of Publicans, Records of Publicans etc anywhere? I'd really like to know more about this ancestor as my partner and I have gone to this Pub in the past completely unaware of a family bond to the place.

Also if anyone knows any history of the Pub that would great!

Grateful for the help!
