Hadn't seen that site before -interesting. Usually, though, regimental museums don't hold much personal info on their men and they do say that they can't guarantee what info you're going to get. Hope you're lucky though! I would imagine they are fairly busy and short staffed,so you might have a bit of a wait. You could always ring or email them and ask.

Hi Vivienne,
Most site I have looked at for war records have indicated that it can take many weeks if not months before anything is forthcoming.Irrespective of the amount of information found, that's the cost you pay.

Have you tried Commonwealth war graves site, or documentsonline?

FannyByGaslight Report 13 Sep 2008 19:11

yes annielaurie but only soldiers no naval casualties with his name and i have a 3month navy service that i got from nat archives and his daughter told her daughter[hope you follow that]she was told he was lost sea which is why im trying to find him in naval casualties
or maybe he was on a troop ship that went down and was a soldier which is looking more likely as there is a medal in his name and some war graves have his name but unfortunatley nothing has the age on ,they all say age unknown.think that one will remain a mystery for now unless theres somewhere i can get a copy of the telegram his wife would have recieved>
thanks

So he was discharged from the Navy in 1910? Merchant Navy records aren't online - they are at the National Archives.

If he was in the Army in WW1, and was killed, his records won't be on Ancestry. They are only up to surnames beginning A-H, so they might appear later!

Hi Vivienne,
For Naval records try the helpful people at The British Merchant Navy website:

http://67.220.225.15/~mercmzbm/

They will have the knowledge to tell you the best way to proceed.
Cheers
